Goals On Biodiversity

The loss of biological diversity is a global crisis. There is hardly any region in the Earth that is not effecting the ecological catastrophes. Of the 1.5 million known to inhabit the Earth one fourth to one third is likely to become extinct next few decades because of human interaction.

(1) Our attempt is to establish a National Biodiversity Group and a committee to be formed at the national level that will take up the mission of keeping biodiversity & work for environment and make citizens conscious about environment and biodiversity.
(2) Help to eradicate environmental hazards through the application of biotechnology.
(3) Plantation programs in roads, islands, schools & institutions with benefit sharing.
(4) Motivation work on environment in urban area to stop use of polythene and popularize the use of biodegradable materials like jute bag, paper bag, etc. and further research to be continued.
(5) Train and motivate the farmers to use the bio-fertilizer, bio-insecticide & organic compost and to protect composition of fuel wood.
(6) Set up gene bank to preserve the biological species which are likely to become extinct because of human activities.

Goals On Medicinal Plants

DEBTEC has inspired the villagers to build Backyard Home Garden of Medicinal plants and established about 200 medicinal plant garden in 200 houses at Laxmipur district. Great enthusiasm has been found about the use, cultivation and economic value of medicinal plant among the villagers particularly to our community users. DEBTEC has propagated Randia dumetorum in its Tissue culture Laboratory through micro propagation technology R. dumetorum is a very important medicinal plant in our country Indiscriminate collection of this plant from its nature habitat has lead to the depletion of its resources and now it is termed as and endangered species. Further research regarding the photochemical extraction and characterization as well as plantation of this plant is going to be started very soon.

(1) To build up Backyard Home Garden for ex-situ conservation.

(2) To initiate a sustainable use of medicinal plants for primary health care by indigenous and local communities. Majority of the village communities will be benefited out of this program.

Training villagers

(3) To create awareness of environmental conservation and protect biodiversity.

(4) To ensure primary health care for treatment of common diseases like cough, cold, fever, headache, dysentery, etc. by the use of local medicinal plants.

Training Program

(5) To empowerment of women by cultivation of medicinal plants and have source of earning.

(6) To motivate local community not to collect medicinal plants from wild habitat.
