DEBTEC has inspired the villagers
to build ‘Backyard Home Garden of Medicinal Plants’ and established 10
medicinal plant gardens at Luxmipur. DEBTEC has 20 medicinal plants which are
commercially important for ex-situ
conservation and cultivation.

endangered wetland tree species like Hijol (Barringtonia acutangula) and Korach (Ponganid

DEBTEC is conducting a project
named ‘Development of Information Database on Medicinal Plants’ supported by
the Ministry of Science, Information and Communication Technology, Govt. of
Bangladesh.
Arsenic Mitigation, DEBTEC has
initiated the work on Arsenic at Laxmipur district which is the hot spot for
arsenic. About 10000 arsenic free devices need at the projexcted area. DEBTEC
scientist s have surveyed the Dakhin Maguri of Shahajadpur village and found
237 tube wells are arsenic contaminated out of 238 tube wells. DEBTEC has
already established two deep tube wells on the 26th March in the occasion
of independent day from Local Govt. of the Ministry, Govt. of Bangladesh. But
two villages need at least 20 deep tube wells. Due to fund constrains DEBTEC
can not fulfill the demand of the project area. The women of them have t carry
the drinking water from long way. The women are mostly affected and suffer for
the arsenic contamination.
DEBTEC has already conducted the
training on bio-fertilizer to the rural women at Laxmipur district, Bangladesh
where they using their kitchen and agricultural waste tern into organic
fertilizer. For medicinal plants bio-fertilizer is most important. DEBTEC has successfully the campaign to use
briquette as alternative of fuel woods.
